We are former 2 SAP Cutover Managers deploying new IT Solutions worldwide in the Retail industry. Cutover is still new.

Initially the term Cutover comes from the SAP world, but due to the increase of the complexity of their IT landscape across all technologies (mainly ERPs) and the increase of the Business Impact during a deployment, the need of a dedicated role starts to take shape.

But where does the Cutover sit? With the Release team? With the Prod team? Is the Cutover Manager just another Project Manager? Should it be IT led or Business led?

With the lack of understanding from the organizations, the Cutover Manager position can be challenging and lonely.

Cutover is an intense period. Whilst other project team members are already there for years sometime, we only have few months to put the right organization in place to secure the GO LIVE.
